My work deals with two sides of human life in our everyday existence –the external characters we construct for ourselves to make our way in the world and our true natures working below the surface, within us.
I like to create a narrative world within the city . My early training as a theatre and film designer allowed me to create worlds – and my work continues from that experience. Underneath the veneer of our clever modern society we are still part of the animal and natural world . I like the earthy and ribald in medieval art.I explore this notion of a person stripped back to their true nature in a series of paintings on paper which I exhibited and made into a book -Carpe Die. A young girl/woman experiences grief and is taken on a journey by a monkey through the city.
my work varies in size -from small drawings and paintings (A2) to large scale drawings and paintings 2m by 3m. I use a mixture of media – mixed media on paper, painting on canvas and board.
